WES MOORE JUST CAN’T HELP HIMSELF — BUT IS HE HELPING MARYLAND?

At an event to highlight the rebirth of Pimlico Racetrack, Governor Moore just could not help himself. I suspect he feels that the Governor of California was out “trumping” him, so he went into his best anti-Trump rant as reported in Maryland Matters: “If you are not willing to be part of the solution, keep our names out of your mouth,” Moore said, eliciting cheers from the crowd. “Specifically, Donald Trump, if you are not willing to walk our communities, keep our name out of your mouth.”

Education bills prioritize teacher shortages, Blueprint funding

When the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future school reform plan passed in 2021 by the Maryland General Assembly, it came on an override of former Gov. Larry Hogan’s veto of the bill. In contrast, Gov. Wes Moore allocated an extra $500 million on top of the required amount for funding the Blueprint and shifted some transportation funding into education, for a total of $900 million excess dollars.

Fast Cars and Bad Policies: How Game Changer Programs Hurt Working-Class Baltimoreans

The new talk of the town is governor-elect Wes Moore’s baby bonds program.  Throughout his campaign, Moore pitched the baby bonds program as a way to ensure that infants born in poverty arrive at adulthood in a more equal economic situation as their wealthier peers. With this program, every child born in Medicaid—largely Black and Latino–could get $3,200.
