When discussions finished at a local town hall, Michael Riker, 61, grabbed his home-designed palm cards and hustled to the door. Dressed in an oversized gray suit and sporting a yellow tie with “We the People” printed on it, Riker stumped for votes mainly by commiserating with disgruntled attendees.

The masked juveniles held a handgun to the chest of the lone middle schooler who remained on the bus, according to Prince George’s County Police. The trigger was pulled, but the gun jammed three times. The assailants beat the boy and fled the scene.

The number of rapes in Maryland increased last year by 15% over the previous year, according to an annual FBI Uniform Crime Report, released Sept. 30. This was significant — the largest year-over-year increase for the state since the FBI’s definition of rape was revised in 2013.
It’s also wrong. In fact, many of Maryland’s crime statistics reported by government agencies are unusually inconsistent — even “astounding” and “bizarre” — according to a national crime statistics expert.
