Gov. Larry Hogan Monday wrote to the transition of team of President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris to emphasize the need for another stimulus package to help states remain solvent and small businesses stay afloat amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“My first priority for the citizens of Maryland continues to be a Phase 4 COVID-19 relief package that includes robust and direct stabilization funding for state and local governments,” Hogan said in the letter. “States are already fighting an uphill battle to rebuild our economies and maintain essential services in education, health care, emergency operations, and public safety.”

Months of negotiations between the Trump administration and congressional leaders have yet to produce an agreement on another stimulus package.

Hogan also urged the incoming administration to prioritize infrastructure improvements and maintain federal funding for the Chesapeake Bay.

“Building a more efficient, innovative, smart, resilient and secure infrastructure future is a mission that governors from both sides of the aisle strongly support. I encourage you to consider our list of key recommendations to the federal government as you craft your initial policy proposals and am happy to discuss this issue further.”

Hogan is included among a handful of Republicans who have recognized Biden as having defeated President Donald Trump. Trump has refused to concede the election and continues to mount legal challenges aimed at overturning its results. Most of Trump’s lawsuits have thus far been dismissed.

Hogan has not ruled out running for president in 2024.

On Sunday more than 134,000 new cases of COVID-19 were reported nationwide.
