Trump administration policies pose threats to Maryland’s ambitious climate efforts
The low-lying coastal community of Crisfield, on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, lost a federal grant aimed at preventing flooding and managing sea-level rise, while universities and research institutions across the state face extensive funding cuts. Disappearing, too, are federal incentives to move to clean energy sources — replaced by President Donald Trump’s effort to repeal state laws aimed at addressing climate change. Meanwhile, scores of employees at federal environmental agencies, including many from Maryland, have already lost or could soon lose their jobs.

Hogan touts $72 million partnership for state’s first offshore wind steel fabrication center
Maryland is expanding its clean energy portfolio and will have its first offshore wind fabrication center per a $72 million partnership between a Danish wind company and an eastern shore steel fabrication firm, Gov. Larry Hogan said Thursday.

Judging from the number of financiers, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and corporate managers at this week’s Maryland Clean Energy Summit, the renewable energy business and companies that reduce use of carbon fuels are becoming larger and more profitable. Bill Van Hoene, senior executive vice president and chief strategy officer for Exelon Corp., which recently purchased Constellation Energy, told an awards lunch that Exelon had proved that a commitment to clean energy is “not just good environmental policy, but good business.”
