Same-sex marriage ready for final vote Friday as amendment attempts fail

Supporters of same-sex marriage in the House of Delegates beat back several attempts to amend the legislation Wednesday, paving the way for a final vote Friday on the legislation in exactly the same form that it passed the Senate two weeks ago.

The House leadership had made clear that the bill needed to stay exactly the same or it would likely die if returned to the Senate.

More renewable energy policies aim to save money and environment

Lawmakers seek to ban smoking in cars with children

A bill to ban smoking in a car with a child, which has been stopped in committee four years running, may finally make it to the floor of the House of Delegates. The bill has more sponsors this year than in the past, especially in the House Environmental Matters Committee, where it needs a favorable vote to get to the floor for debate.
