If you identify with the late Kenny Rogers’s song “The Gambler,” but can’t go to a casino due to the pandemic, and you live in a state where online gambling is illegal why not sit down, relax, and enjoy a good movie about gambling instead. Take a gamble if you will. And if you do live in one of the four states where online gambling is okay, you can enjoy both. Whether you live in a state where online casinos are allowed or not, American Casino Guide is where you can find guides, recommendations, and answers to questions you didn’t know you had about the USA’s online casinos.

21 (2008)

In a classic heist movie and inspired by the true story of the MIT Blackjack Team, the main character, Ben, a mathematics student at MIT, is accepted into Harvard Medical School but cannot afford to pay the tuition. He is approached by a professor who recruits him, based on his high IQ, to a covert team of students that play and win money from casinos by counting cards.  A thrilling film, which will not only satisfy your need for gambling, big risks, and drama.

Win It All (2017)

This slept-on independent film is a Netflix original and definitely worth you while. The story revolves around Eddie, a recovering gambling addict, who makes a deal with Michael, a local thug who is going to prison. The deal is that Eddie looks after Michael’s bag while he serves his sentence, without questions or tampering, in return for 10.000 dollars. Eddie eventually gives into temptation and finds money in the bag, which he then gambles. One gamble takes the other, and soon Michael is being let out early, and Eddie must find a way to replace the money he gambled away.

Molly’s Game (2017)

A biographical crime movie, following Molly Bloom as she becomes a target of FBI’s scrutinization after her underground poker empire for Hollywood’s elite, athletes, and the Russian mob, is exposed. Unlike most movies about gambling, this movie portrays a strong female lead, played by Jessica Chastain. Important to mention, because while the world of gambling is largely perceived to be a man’s world, it does contain and attract women as well.

Casino (1995)

An epic crime drama from Martin Scorsese starring Robert DiNiro. The movie follows Di Niro’s character as he is put in charge of a casino in Las Vegas, his everyday difficulties with the casino, the mob’s involvement, and the gradual breakdown of his life.

The Hangover (2009)

While not directly about gambling, this comedy deals with a massive hangover and memory loss after a bachelor party in Las Vegas. The groom is missing, and the three remaining friends must then retrace their steps in an effort to find the groom in time for the wedding. It is great for a night where you just want to watch something dumb and witty.
