FORECLOSURE: A new law approved this week will aid Maryland homeowners who are facing foreclosure, according to Ovetta Wiggins for The Washington Post. Lenders now must send homeowners an application for modification before foreclosures can start, according to this Associated Press article.

OPEN LAND SPARED: A program to preserve open land survived the budget axe this year, writes Andy Rosen for MarylandReporter.com, as Gov. Martin O’Malley and lawmakers used borrowed money to keep conservation afloat.

DEAD BILLS: An Associated Press roundup highlights a few select bills of the 2,000 that didn’t make the cut, including a ban on reading text messages while driving.

RACE TO THE TOP: Carroll County schools will not be competing for federal education reform cash. The county Board of Education decided Wednesday that the cost of implementing some of the new programs outweighs the benefits of receiving funding. EHRLICH:  Current candidate and former Gov. Bob Ehrlich criticized Democratic lawmakers for putting off tough decisions on spending during the 2010 General Assembly session, writes Brian Witte for The Associated Press. Ehrlich sat down with WJZ reporter Adam May to discuss his re-election hopes.

Ehrlich says he doesn’t need any help from national Republican stars like Sarah Palin as he takes on O’Malley for the governor’s mansion. John Wagner has analysis for the Post. One possible exception: Rudy Giuliani.

GOP PRIMARY: Former Del. Carmen Amedori is expected to be tapped as Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Murphy’s running mate. Neither Amedori nor Murphy confirmed these claims. An official announcement will be made Friday, according to Tom LoBianco for WYPR.

ANDY HARRIS: Republican Sen. Andy Harris has raised more than $1 million for his campaign against Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil, writes Paul West of The Sun’s Maryland Politics blog.

TEA PARTY: A number of rallies will be taking place today — the last day to file taxes. They’re hosted by Maryland TEA Party groups who are encouraging people to speak out against increased federal spending and bailouts. Scott Wykoff has the story for WBAL Radio.
