State Roundup, April 3, 2012

It’s Primary Election Day in Maryland and there’s lots of coverage on the GOP presidential race as well as the U.S. Senate and congressional races; in Annapolis news, Gov. O’Malley suggests raising the sales tax to dedicate funds to transportation; wind proponents rally; R&D tax credit proposal moves forward; harsher penalties proposed for cigarette smuggling; and 2nd in command at Arundel police department speaks with council on Leopold probe.

Wind energy advocates encircle State House

It was an unusual sight Monday night as hundreds of people joined hands and encircled the State House to show support for wind power legislation. More than 400 turned out to push for final passage of Gov. Martin O’Malley’s offshore wind energy bill, which passed the House of Delegates last week and must now clear the Senate.
