State Roundup, April 13, 2011

More than 150 bills were signed into law yesterday including one to allow police to use wiretaps to investigate human trafficking and one to implement federal health care reform. Not included in yesterday’s signing were the bills to give in-state tuition to qualifying illegal immigrants and to raise the alcohol tax; several low-profile bills that passed include one to create a panel to study long-term Medicaid funding and one to allow parents to take their kids on weekend-long hunting trips; fracking study legislation failed, but state’s caution may take care of that; Prince George’s and Montgomery counties pleased with session; and liquor tastings and hotel tax hike passed for Howard County.
