Lenett, Manno spar over District 19 Senate seat, leadership, but struggle to show policy differences

While campaigning to keep his seat representing District 19, Sen. Mike Lenett said many people he meets are still trying to figure out why the freshman Democrat has a challenger.

Lenett, an attorney first elected in 2006, is being taken on in the Democratic primary by one-term Del. Roger Manno. Lenett said the fact that he has a primary race to run has been difficult to explain to constituents.

Former colleagues Forehand and Kagan fight over who is the best leader in District 17

With 32 years in the General Assembly, Sen. Jennie Forehand is used to elections.

But she’s not used to fighting her way through a hotly contested Democratic primary with a former colleague from Montgomery County’s District 17.

Forehand (photo right) has not had a contested election for “a very long time,” she said. But she has one this year with former Del. Cheryl Kagan.

Primary will decide fate of six incumbent senators in Montgomery, PG

Four weeks from today, every major office in Montgomery and Prince George’s County – from sheriff to executive, from county council to state senate – will largely be decided in the Democratic primary.

The last two Republican office holders in Montgomery, the state’s most populous jurisdiction, were defeated four years ago, and four years before that the GOP went empty in Prince George’s, the second largest county.
