Analysis: The data behind 90 days in Annapolis

Capital News Service gathered data from the 2019 legislative session and conducted an analysis to report on some of the most striking takeaways from the General Assembly. In the Senate and House of Delegates, 188 legislators introduced 2,497 bills, which includes 16 joint resolutions. Both chambers passed 866 bills, two of which were joint resolutions.

David Moon, the man behind the Maryland Juice political blog in Montgomery County, made it sort of official Saturday on the back patio of his Takoma Park home. He’s running for the House of Delegates, with a formal announcement to come later. Moon has been a progressive activist, campaign manager and consultant, and helped elect folks such as Sen. Jamie Raskin, Montgomery County Council members Nancy Navarro, Valerie Ervin and Hans Riemer, and the District 18 Democratic slate. A few of these folks showed up at the event.

We’ve been told “Life is not fair,” but what’s “fair” when it comes to blogging and redistricting? In the case of blogging, David Moon at Maryland Juice has gotten into an online argument with lawyers for Patch.com, and Democratic Party Chair Yvette Lewis says congressional redistricting was “fair” and “transparent.”
