A 63% majority of Maryland voters oppose the tax increases needed to fund education spending hikes, according to a new Maryland Public Policy Institute poll conducted by Gonzales Research & Media Services. The overwhelming opposition to income and property tax hikes comes as Maryland taxpayers are learning of the large cost of the “Blueprint for Maryland’s Futurie” devised by the Kirwan Commission in 2019. William P. Doyle abruptly resigned Friday from his position as director of the Maryland Port Administration, immediately transferring the leadership post to his deputy, according to a state ports spokesperson. The agency “cannot discuss details of personnel matters” but confirmed Doyle’s resignation, MPA spokesperson Richard Scher said Monday. MPA Deputy Executive Director Brian Miller is now serving as interim acting executive director of the agency that oversees the Port of Baltimore, Scher said.

Lawmakers and account holders criticized Maryland 529 for obfuscation and incompetence after the agency suspended earnings on 31,000 prepaid tuition accounts last year, citing a calculation error.

The five-member board on Thursday unanimously approved the selection of Jared DeMarinis to succeed long-time administrator Linda Lamone. And the FBI has submitted a letter favoring Virginia over Maryland for its new headquarters.
