AI MISUSE BY LAWYERS LIKELY TO FACE BLOWBACK FROM COURTS: A recent accusation that the City of Annapolis might have allowed unchecked use of artificial intelligence in a legal filing — including fabricated citations and quotes — has raised questions of who sets standards for lawyers’ AI use and who holds them accountable. The city on Thursday withdrew the filing after plaintiffs’ attorneys made the allegation last week in two housing discrimination cases. The incident is at least the third time this year that a Maryland attorney has been accused of using AI-fabricated material in legal briefs. Katharine Wilson/The Baltimore Sun.

Who holds the lawyers responsible for their AI Use? Well i hope it would be the Bar or the courts themselves reprimanding them for their fake ass filings. Like come on now. We are seeing more and more that AI doesn’t work properly. You have to keep asking it questions to get the right answer. I have even had these things apologize to me after I confronted them with the bad information. It’s crazy to think that even AI doesn’t understand Law. That’s how complicated this shit is. But yet we are all expected to obey and there is no excuse for ignorance of the law, well how about we simplify this shit. Not even sure that’s possible. But whoever makes an AI that specifically focuses on Law and does not cause errors like this is going to be a rich rich person. In theory we could all be our own lawyer and file our own paperwork. But it seems these Lawyers still need to Double Check their work. AI is just a Tool it is not something you can rely on to do anything with out Double Checking its work.
