TwinSpires Sportsbook at Ocean Downs Casino in Berlin officially opened on Dec. 17, 2021, as the fourth retail sportsbook in Maryland. While the retail sportsbook is relatively new, Ocean Downs Casino has been around (to varying degrees of success) since 1947.
What can Maryland bettors expect from the Churchill Downs-owned casino and sportsbook? Here’s a taste of what you’ll find when you visit.
TwinSpires Sportsbook at Ocean Downs Casino Address and Hours
Address:
10218 Racetrack Rd, Berlin, MD 21811
Hours:
8 a.m. – 2 a.m. Daily
Berlin sits 100 miles southeast of Baltimore near the Delaware border, with Salisbury being the closest “big” Maryland city. Sports betting is also legal in Delaware, although our neighbor is in a similar situation; only retail wagers are allowed at one of Delaware’s three racinos.
TwinSpires Sportsbook at Ocean Downs Features
While you won’t find any staffed betting windows at Ocean Downs Casino, the TwinSpires Sportsbook does have 20 sports betting kiosks. The self-service kiosks are easy to use and allow users to go at their own pace to find the exact bets they want to place.
Want to hang out and sweat the bets you place? The retail sportsbook features 26 wide-screen televisions for bettors to enjoy all of the action.
What Kind of Bets Can You Place at Ocean Downs Casino?
Maryland bettors can place bets on all of their favorite professional and collegiate sports with the TwinSpires Sportsbook betting kiosks. From the Churchill Downs press release, the company also notes bettors can wager on “popular events from across the world”.
The types of bets you can place at the kiosks are:
- Moneyline
- Spread
- Totals
- Props
- Parlays
- Futures
- Teasers
- Live bets
Essentially, you can place wagers of nearly any kind on just about any sport.
Does TwinSpires Have A Mobile App?
TwinSpires does have a mobile app, but only for horse racing. Its parent company, Churchill Downs, owns the Kentucky Derby and has been a leader in horse race wagering for years. TwinSpires did have an online sportsbook app, but CDI decided to shut down that side of its business in early 2022.
While Maryland sports bettors are starving for any MD sports betting app to be available to them, TwinSpires won’t be among the apps.
Maryland Online Sports Betting Update
Speaking of mobile sports betting apps, there’s finally some semblance of positive movement from Maryland legislators. The Maryland Sports Wagering Application Review Committee (SWARC) recently announced the opening of the mobile application process.
Operators will have until Oct. 21 to apply and following that, SWARC has up to 45 days to complete the application review process.
It’s been a long time coming since sports betting was officially launched in December 2021, but there is light at the end of the tunnel for bettors who don’t live near one of Maryland’s six retail sportsbooks.
