Campaign starts for another $1-a-pack tax hike on cigarettes
The folks who campaigned for the new 9% alcohol sales tax and the $2-a-pack cigarette tax are pushing for an additional $1-a-pack tax on cigarettes to help fund health care.
Franchot protests “emergency” move of higher ed office
Under protests from Comptroller Peter Franchot, the Board of Public Works approved an emergency contract to build out a new home for the Annapolis-based Maryland Higher Education Commission in the same Baltimore building as the State Board of Education.
$18 million in alcohol tax funds goes to schools
The Board of Public Works awarded $18 million in grants coming from the new 3% alcohol sales tax for school construction projects in Howard, Montgomery, and Anne Arundel counties.
